Reaction Kinetics between Fiber and Matrix Components in Metal Matrix Composites

چکیده
Interdiffusion and interdiffusion COntrGlied intermediate phase formation in metal matrix composites can be of interest for the prolonged application of these systems at high temperatures. Methods are discussed that address the kinetics of interdiffusion in systems that exhibit solid solution intermixing or the formation of a third intermediate phase at the fiber/matrix interface, or both. The tungsten fiber reinforced niobium and tungsten fiber reinforced superalloy systems are employed as model systems for experimentation and discussion. In an effort to impede interdiffusion, the concept of ion implanted diffusion barriers have been examined. Preliminary results on the feasibility and effectiveness of ion implanted diffusion barriers are presented. Superalloys 1988 Edited by S: Reich&n, D.N. Duhl, G. Maurer, S. Antolovich and C. Discrepancies Between Free Vibration of FML and Composite Cylindrical Shells Reinforced by CNTs
In this study, discrepancies between the free vibration of fiber-metal laminate (FML) and composite cylindrical shells reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) based on Love’s first approximation shell theory have been considered by beam modal function model. The representative volume elements consist of three and four phases for composite and FML structures, respectively, which include fiber, CNT...
متن کاملIntroducing A New Mathematical Model and Developing A Computer Package For 3-D Machining of Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites
Due to the widespread applications of fiber reinforced polymer composites in various industries, the machining of these materials to reach the desired shapes, close tolerances and surface finish quality is of great importance. But the composite materials are anisotropic and are mostly prepared in laminated form and, therefore, they have special chip formation behaviour. Among the effective para...
متن کاملSynthesis of Aluminum- CNTs Composites Using Double-Pressing Double-Sintering Method (DPDS)
Metal matrix composite (MMC) is engineered combination of the metal (matrix) and hard particle (reinforcement) to get tailored properties. MMCs are either in use or prototyping for the space shuttle, commercial airliners, electronic substrates, automobiles, golf clubs, and a variety of other applications. In this study, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) reinforced aluminum MMCs were synthesized by DPDS fo...
متن کاملStudy of the Enhanced Precipitation of an Aluminium 6061 Alloy Reinforced by SiC Particles in the Range of β\" Phase Temperature (RESEARCH NOTE)
An experimental method to follow the evolution of the precipitation phenomena in the metal-matrix composites using the thermoelectric power measurements is described. It is shown that one can follow the kinetics of the precipitation during aging. The influence of the reinforcement on the precipitation kinetics is studied in case of an aluminum 6061- SiC, composite (where SiC, represents SiC par...
متن کاملFilament/Matrix Interaction of Titanium-Matrix Composites Reinforced with SiC Fibers
Fiber reinforced metal composites were fabricated by diffusion welding. The matrices used were commercially pure titanium (CPTi) and two kinds of titanium alloys (Ti-6A1-4V and Ti-21V-4A1), and the filaments were two kinds of SiC-CVD fiber. The structure and the distribution of elements in reaction zone between matrix and filament both in as-fabricated state and in heat-treated state were inves...
